Keep your cool if your wallet or purse gets lost

Follow these basic rules:

1.       Make copies and a list of details of all cards in your wallet and keep them at home (as well as cancellation telephone numbers).

2.       Make a (certified) copy of your ID and drivers license and keep it at home.

3.       Do not carry more than 1-2 Credit/Debit cards with you (Only those you are going to use in the foreseen future).

4.       Do not carry a lot of Cash with you.

5.       Do not carry your ID book with you (Except if you are going to use it).

6.       Be safe. Nothing in this world is more important than your life, don’t try anything stupid when you are robbed.

7.       Always beware of strangers following you or monitoring you.

Immediately after discovering that the wallet is gone,

1.       Begin contacting all institutions (banks first) with the information you’ve filled in below and inform them of your situation. Have them cancel your cards and have them mail you new replacements now.

2.       Call the police and security.

3.       Notify any one of the credit bureaus to prevent any type of identity fraud. Ask for a security freeze and a fraud alert. This step should be taken if your ID number was available in your wallet.

4.       Pull out backup copies of the cards (which should already have) that were in your lost wallet, just in case you need them while you get your new cards or while your wallet is being returned to you.
